Mentorship

Once again this year, we are introducing the Mentorship program in which teams can be assigned a mentor to assist with the process of writing the business plan. Mentors will be assigned from faculty under UTM Department of Management, UTM Alumni Association and our Platinum Sponsors. It is expected that mentors will spend approximately 1-2 hours per month to provide support and guidance. If your team would like to request a mentor, please indicate this in the team registration form online.

Role of Mentors
- Schedule a meeting with the team of mentees for discussion
- It is expected that the mentor should dedicate their time approximately 1-2 hours per month depending on their level of ability in writing business plan.
- Offer professional support and advice.
- Mentors can provide guidance to the students throughout the development of the team’s case (from November to March)
- They can refer to sources of information on the internet, books or contacts to aid students in research. Any information found on the internet/books/magazines/other publications must be disclosed.
- Mentors can attend the actual conference (must be notified in advance) but will not be allowed to be in the presentation room when the team is presenting.

Mentors cannot...
- Contribute to the writing of the final case
- Direct/Influence the mentees in a certain direction.
- Evaluate or edit any part of the case for the team.
- Provide any core ideas, which is significant to the case.
- Disregard the principles of academic integrity as described by the University of Toronto rules of academic misconduct.

How will the mentees (teams) benefit
- With guidance, mentees can develop a sophisticated business orientated business plan.
- Increase in knowledge of issues related to sustainability.
- Increased in contacts.
